Preventive Dentistry Bellaire
Creating Healthier Smiles with State-of-the-Art Solutions
Preventive dentistry is a grouping of dental services that are used to reduce the chances of tooth decay, gum disease, and other similar oral health issues. The American Dental Association as well as Dr. Estella and our team at West Loop Dental Aesthetics suggest two yearly dental checkups and cleanings to keep patients’ teeth, gums, and overall wellness in check. We use innovative solutions, like AIRFLOW® technology, to help individuals achieve healthier smiles as well as opportunities for education to keep patients well-informed about their oral health. Call us to schedule an appointment today to learn how preventive dentistry is provided in our Bellaire dental office.

Dental Checkups & Cleanings
Six-month routine dental checkups and cleanings are recommended for patients of all ages unless otherwise instructed. These visits include a thorough examination using modern technologies, such as our Carestream intraoral camera, which captures images inside the mouth, and our Carestream digital intraoral sensors, which are devices used to take radiographic images of the mouth for thorough diagnosis and accurate treatment planning.
During a regular examination, Dr. Estella will check for signs of infection, damage, and decay as well as perform a tactile oral cancer screening to check for abnormalities within the mouth or facial area. This allows for early detection should we believe further testing is required.
The dental cleanings that are performed during these routine visits do not incorporate traditional instruments but instead, allow for a more comfortable approach with AIRFLOW®.
AIRFLOW® treatment uses state-of-the-art technology to remove stains and discolorations caused by habits such as consuming coffee, tea, tobacco, and red wine, among others. It is simple and yet gives patients a brighter, fresher smile that produces immediately noticeable results. This method of dental cleaning, while effective, is actually gentle on the teeth and less abrasive than other cleaning methods, so people with dental implants can even have it done.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride is a natural mineral commonly found in city tap water, toothpaste, and many fruits and vegetables. Its ability to strengthen and remineralize tooth enamel as well as resist decay caused by bacteria and harmful acids is why we recommend cavity-prone patients receive additional fluoride treatment during a routine dental exam. It is applied to the surfaces of teeth in minutes and offers greater protection between appointments.
Nightguards for Bruxism
Bruxism is more commonly known as teeth grinding and clenching. Dr. Estella and our team will determine if enamel erosion is evident and inquire about any jaw pain that may be present. If it appears bruxism may be a problem, we can create a custom nightguard for a patient to wear a night. The device prevents the upper and lower arches of teeth from touching, reducing damage to one’s tooth enamel and alleviating pressure placed on the jaw joints.
