Dental Sealants

The molars and premolars found toward the back of a child’s mouth are prone to cavities. This is why children need to practice brushing their teeth while a parent observes their technique, as teeth with small crevices on the chewing surfaces can be difficult to reach. During this learning and growing stage, we can apply dental sealants to these teeth to minimize the potential bacteria that might otherwise penetrate the enamel and lead to dental decay. The application takes minutes, and the sealants can last up to a decade.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Cavities can form even if the most diligent oral hygiene routine is practiced. When this happens, we can apply silver diamine fluoride to the tooth. It eliminates or slows the progression of cavities in both baby and adult teeth and also promotes remineralization of the tooth enamel. This non-invasive, conservative approach to cavity treatment makes it a preferred solution for children who may not yet be ready for tooth-colored fillings.

Athletic Mouthguards/ Sportsguards

A custom-crafted athletic mouthguard is a worthwhile investment for any parent whose child or teenager plays sports. They are made using impressions taken of a young person’s smile so that they remain comfortable during gameplay. Their snug fit also ensures they remain in place so that they absorb any pressure that might otherwise cause a dental emergency, such as a chipped, broken, or knocked-out tooth.

Pulp Treatment

Pulp treatment is a procedure dentists perform to address damaged or infected pulp inside a child’s tooth. The process is used to preserve the existing tooth so that it continues to develop properly. Children who require pulp treatment may complain of severe pain because of the infection. Dr. Estella will remove the pulp, eliminate the discomfort, and produce a smile that works normally. The tooth will be topped with a custom-made crown for added protection – one that allows for improved dental aesthetics.

Children with intellectual and physical disabilities tend to require special accommodations when seeking oral healthcare. Our West Loop Dental Aesthetics team is here to walk alongside patients to create positive dental experiences that are comfortable and enjoyable. We will perform thorough dental checkups and cleanings as well as administer additional treatment should it be necessary. We will discuss the entirety of the child’s plan beforehand to eliminate any potential surprises.
